Sizzling but Stress-Free: Tips for Moving in the Las Vegas Heat

by Bethany Schilder

If you’re planning a move in Las Vegas, here’s something you should know: the desert does not play around. Summer in Vegas can be a scorcher, with temps often soaring well into the triple digits. Whether you’re a long-time local trading in your Henderson zip code for a downtown loft, or you’re brand new to town and unloading a U-Haul in 110° heat, you’re going to need a game plan. Trust me I’ve seen my share of melted packing tape and sweaty moving crews! But fear not—I’ve got some fabulous tips to help you conquer the heat and avoid a literal meltdown.

Timing Is Everything (Seriously)

Let’s start with the obvious: timing is everything. If you can schedule your move earlier in the morning, do it. Temperatures between sunrise and 10 a.m. are significantly cooler, and your future self will thank you for skipping the afternoon furnace vibes. Even if you’re just going from one side of the 215 to the other, you’ll want to hydrate like you’re prepping for a hike through Red Rock Canyon—because moving boxes in the heat is a workout. Pack a cooler with cold water, sports drinks, and icy washcloths to dab on your neck and face. Your moving crew (even if it’s just you and your cousin with a pizza bribe) will appreciate the refreshment!

Prep for the Heat Before You Pack

One of my personal tips? Don’t pack your A/C remote or box fan! You’d be surprised how often this happens. You’ll want to cool down your new space as soon as you get the keys, especially if it’s been sitting empty. It’s also smart to make “heat essentials” the last thing you pack and the first thing you unpack. Think sunscreen, hats, lightweight clothes, and a shady spot to rest.

Take a Break From the Chaos

Even the most organized movers need a little escape. Vegas has some incredible indoor retreats perfect for a mid-move breather. Pop into a local café for an iced lavender latte, or hit up a nearby casino for a blast of AC and lunch. Families might want to visit Springs Preserve or the Discovery Children’s Museum for an hour or two—cool, fun, and totally guilt-free. After all, a short break from the chaos can refresh your energy and your attitude. Plus, if you’re relocating from out of state, these little outings are a great way to start exploring your new hometown!

Find Joy in the Little Wins

And let’s be real—moving is already stressful without the whole “sweating through your socks” part. Give yourself permission to order takeout instead of cooking that first night. Grab some tacos or treat yourself to an icy boba tea. Small wins like that can turn a hot mess of a day into something worth toasting. (Bonus points if guac is involved. You know I’m all about that!)

Slow and Steady (and Smart!)

Last but not least: pace yourself. Las Vegas summers are a marathon, not a sprint. If your move-in spans a couple days, that’s okay! Prioritize your health and sanity over speed. Trust me, you’ll settle into your new home way happier if you didn’t have to peel yourself off the floor due to heat exhaustion.

So whether you’re Vegas born or just Vegas bound, remember—moving in the Las Vegas heat takes a little planning, a lot of hydration, and a dash of local know-how. And if you ever need a moving buddy with iced coffee in hand and all the real estate scoop? You know who to call.

Anytime between “now” and “right now” is a good time to take action on shaping your best life, and that includes where you live. Let’s get the ball rolling on your next steps.
