The weather is cooling down, fall is here, and the holidays are around the corner, friends! It’s time to begin thinking about giving back (not that we can’t do that year-round). Volunteering isn’t just about lending a hand – it’s about gaining a heartful of memories and new friends. Some of them may even have four paws!
We’ll explore some of the volunteering options in Las Vegas; however, if these aren’t your style, take a look on Idealist for other opportunities in the area.
Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada impacts some of the most vulnerable community members in Las Vegas. Many are low-income seniors who are not able to maintain their homes. The volunteering efforts at this organization focus on the neighborhoods with the greatest need, to help ensure people can keep or remain in their homes.
Three Square is a food bank that aims to maintain a hunger-free community. Working with a network of partners, in 2022, they distributed more than 42 million meals (that’s 51 million pounds of food)! Whoa! By volunteering at Three Square you can assemble meals for children or pack produce for seniors and families in Las Vegas.
Help those with paws! A personal fave of mine, the Nevada SPCA takes in over 2,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small pets annually! That’s a lot of fur! When you volunteer at the Nevada SPCA, you can support the animal care team, provide pet enrichment, walk dogs, work at events, or help organize a donation drive. So many opportunities!
Speaking of opportunities, Opportunity Village is dedicated to helping people with disabilities find the very best version of themselves. By volunteering your time here, you can help serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their volunteer opportunities are super unique, including scare actors for Vegas Fright Nights, attraction attendants for the Magical Forest (https://bethanylasvegasrealtor.com/holiday-activities-in-las-vegas/), Opportunity Village Thrift Store Superstars, and more!
